Projects for which the Trust may Grant Funds

The Trust may grant funds towards the cost of the preservation, repair, maintenance and improvement of churches and chapels within Suffolk. The Trust  supports the provision of modern facilities and in churches where they do not already exist small grants may be made towards toilet and kitchen projects.

Funds granted are normally for work to the fabric of the church. To be eligible for a grant, the Trust requires that:
  • the recipient church must be in regular use as a public place of worship
  • the church faces a shortfall of funds to complete the project for which funds are sought
  • recipient churches must be open or readily accessible to the public
  • the church believes it will be able to raise the remaining funds needed.

Ineligible Projects

The Trust does not normally make grants for:
  • electrical work
  • furnishings and fittings
  • churchyard walls
  • brasses and bells
  • monuments
  • redecoration, unless needed as part of an eligible project
  • new buildings or extensions to existing buildings.

Timetable

The Grants Committee normally meets in the second week of January, April, July and October. Applications received by the end of the month prior to the meeting are considered at the meeting.
